Yeah, the potatoes are hard to beat. I made them myself a couple of weeks ago. I don't want to be a fatass, so they're a rare treat.
I'm disappointed to hear about the steak - the one I had a year ago or so was fine. Always used to be a good steak at a good price with a bar next door.

Chianti.
I seriously think people in Shreveport forget this place exists.
And then walk out the door and turn left and you'll be at the attached Vintage Wine Bar.
Olive Street Bistro is good too. And I love Indigo.
ETA: I'll second the notion that the Village Steak House is an overpriced, past it's prime establishment. Last time I was there was a miserable experience: terrible service, mediocre food.

No you don't. You like the idea of Wine Country, you like the menu at Wine Country, but you don't actually like the taste of the food. You eat it, telling yourself the kitchen's having a bad night, or that you got the only fatty piece of duck in the fridge, but you know the truth: the chef just isn't that good and the ambitious menu is too much for him.
boom!
frick a Wine Country. Ristorante Giuseppe too.
ETA: nice call on the Chianti/Vintage combo. the owner is a little douchey but his daughter is hot and they have good food & drinks.

I'll mention it. It sucks. If I want Mexican I go to a hole in the wall type place. Like El Mariachi or the place near Centenary.. El Campgana (sp).

Awesome! The gumbo/etouffee combo is good. The frog legs are good. The crab claws are some of the biggest anywhere (usually). Really, I can't think of anything to avoid on the menu.
