Has anyone here shipped crawfish out of the country? My in-laws are in Germany and want us to send them a sack. How much can they expect to pay on top of the cost of a sack?

I'm not 100%, but i'm pretty sure you can't ship live animals overseas. Plus there is the whole invasive species thing with our native crawfish messing up Europe's ecosystems:

If they are lucky, they may be able to buy the native crawfish and then you just have to ship seasonings

Finland has a huge crawfish industry. Tell them to get them from there.

I wouldnt think looking at a site selling crawfish would answer import question of live animals for a specific country.. Im sure there are many countries that have laws preventing this.

Well if you would have read the site, it also says that they ship internationally. I would think they are pretty versed in what countries they can and can't send to

Hmmm ask a bunch of coonass crawfish farmers or ask Fed Ex?? Hmmmmmm

BTW Fed Ex for Germany:

quote:

The following items are not acceptable for carriage to any international destinations unless otherwise indicated. (Additional restrictions may apply depending on destination. Various regulatory clearances in addition to customs clearance may be required for certain commodities, thereby extending the transit time.)

quote:

Live animals (including insects) except via our Live Animal Desk (1.800.405.9052).

I would bet you would have a huge amount die on that trip anyways.

I think the moral of the story is that this isn't the best place to ask

is to buy them in Europe. Guess what, they are pretty popular over there, especially in Finland. With the EU, you can ship anything quickly.

I tried to ship a coat back to a friend in London when she left it in NOLA for New Year's. They told me it was going to be $100 for the slowest way... and that was just a coat.

Good luck! If I lived over there, I know I'd love some great crawfish!
