Bon Temps Grill on Verot. Charley G's on Ambassador. La Pagua (Mexican) on Johnston. Olde Tyme Grocery on St. Mary for Poboys. Masala (Indian) on Kalise Saloom. Pho Saigon (Vietnamese) on Ambassador. Pamplona (Spanish Tapas) on Jefferson Downtown. Poor Boy Riverside Inn in Broussard. Soop's in Maurice. Pimon Thai on Johnston. French Press for Brunch on Vermilion. Jolie's on Pinhook. Legends on Johnston for a Burger.
You can't go wrong with any of these.
Agree with all except Pho Saigon, go to Saigon Noodles on Ambassador/Congress, it's MORE AUTHENTIC and flavor/seasoned by FAR, and of course the hamburger part, Judice Inn on Johnston FTW !

To be honest, you are probably right. I have heard great things about Saigon Noodles. I haven't been but at Pho Saigon get the #39. It's amazing. Super tender beef with fried rice.

I went and it was good but Saigon is just on another level though. I sure hope they stay that way ! Keep it small, quaint, and stick to the food (that's why they don't have liquor -- it's BYOB ).

The original Mulates was sold a few years ago. It has a new name now (can't recall it), and I don't know anything about the food or atmosphere now.
Pont Breaux's Cajun Restaurant. Food is adequate. I would go if you're interested in Cajun music and dancing and the honky tonk atmosphere, not the food.
Change of ownership happened a couple of years after Miss Goldie died. Her adult kids did not want to run it and sold it to the guy who'd been the general manager for years and another guy. Atmosphere has remained the same. Seafood gumbo used to be legit, last couple of times it was a huge disappointment.

What's good here? Probably going tonight and thinking about a steak or seafood platter.

I would not go with steak. Not that it's bad (I have never had it), but because you can get some of the best seafood around. Oysters and shrimp are my favorite.

I have only been twice and it was ok. I think it is where the picadilly crowd goes if they want to order off of a menu. No ambiance/character and lots and lots of old people.

I sent two different visitors to dine there and neither of them was happy with it. I haven't been in 20 years, so all I can go off of is their negative reports.

It's average, probably the 4th best restaurant on Pinhook between University & Kaliste Saloom

Blue dog does not fall in to the parameters of the discussion. It is north of university and would probably be number 5.
