Which one gives you the best bang for your buck? Good Lord willin', I'll be able to go grab some in a little while.

Dalmore IMO is the best bang for your buck.

Thanks. When I get scotch at a bar, no matter what they have, I usually just order Dewars. I had it at a wedding once and it was good enough for me. So that is what I'm working with.

Grant's. Same distillery that brought you GlenFiddich.

Translation: What is a decent cheap scotch?

quote:Your problem is probably going to be more selection than bang-buck. There are many that would be high on the bang-buck list but aren't carry at your more generic places like grocery stores, gas stations, etc.

no, sir. It does't have to be cheap. I am asking what is the best value at the price it's sold at.

You could break it down by tiers pretty easily though. $20-$40-$60 and on.

Highland Park 12 is pretty solid for around $40.

This is pretty much unrelated, but some smart person I know once told me that the way you order wine at a restaurant is to choose the second to least expensive one, which will usually be the best value.

In that case... Oban 14

Scotches are so different that it all depends your preferred taste. I like speysides and highlands, 18 year olds over 12, single malts over blends. The only scotch I couldn't finish was Talisker, it tast like campho-phenique. If I can find an 18 y/o for less than $120 I'm happy

quote:Grant's at around $13, a blend with good honey-amber tones and fruity finish, is IMO the best B/B. Next up is Glenfiddich at appr. $38. There are so many good ones at the $40 mark, it's hard to say one for sure.

I bought a hard to find Speyburn single malt a couple of weekends ago, which at $20 is cheap for a good single.
