Will b back in SF for a week at the end odlf May.....have 1 full day I can spend goin to Napa.

Anyone been on any tour of Napa from SF? We are staying downtown SF. I know there are tours available from SF to Napa and back.... With predetermined vineyards, etc for a relatively inexpensive day. I have concerns about this for several reasons.... Not being on our own schedule, not picking our own vineyards, stuck with other tourists, ...

Are mu hesitations inaccurate? Take the tour and be done with it? I entertained the idea of getting a limo for the day so we could come and go as we pleased.....but my wife does not want to spend a load of money....I have not checked into this, so do not currently have an idea what those prices would be.

Know for sure... We dont want to drive.

Any suggestions would be helpful

I have heard good things about the wine train.

I have not been on it myself.

Know for sure: Napa is great, and worth the effort.

Personally speaking I prefer Sonoma to Napa. Much less snooty. My suggestion would be to get a zip car for the day and go to Sonoma and have these guys take you around.

Gene & Debbie Warren, Proprietors.
Healdsburg Area Winery Tours
"A personal wine tour driver & guide service"
Healdsburg Area Wine Tours

This guy is a retired and does this as his job now. He lets you select the places or you could tell him what types of wine you like and he could help you select places. We didn't have to pay any tasting fees and he even got us a tour of one of the wineries.

The downside would be that you would a)have to drive back to the city after the wine tour or b) spend the night in Sonoma (which wouldn't be the worst thing).

Yeah, I get that. But, I am sure there are tours to Sonoma so that should be good.

I toured Napa with my parents when I was 10. We did our own thing and even at 10 I had a great time. I remember the Copolla winery sticking out just because of all the stuff from his films. Alcatraz was more fun for me at that age though.

I had the best time at Copolla when I was there in February. They've opened a new winery since you've been there. It's like a resort without rooms. The restaurant there, Rustic, was absolutely amazing.

Francis Ford Copolla was actually there having lunch at the same time too!

It was cold in Feb, but we chose to eat outside on the deck... this was our view at lunch

Eating at Hwy 29 cafe for breakfast is a MUST. this is the medium size omelette!

This was taken in early June of 2009 and the best part: I had to wear a jacket that morning!

I took a tour from SF to Napa. They drove you from the ferry building to four wineries in Napa.
