I've got some sacalait in the freezer that was given to us by some friends. It was vacuum sealed by a commercial vacuum sealer and has been in the freezer since the end of 2019. Got a guy's beach trip coming up and saw it as a good time to get rid of it and fry it. What's the board say, is it still good? Or am I risking starting another strain of Covid?

Gotta be honest. Other than simply not wanting it anymore, I don't think I've ever thrown out anything from the freezer no matter how long it's been in there

If it was just me eating it, I'm about the same way. But with other people involved, I wasn't sure if I should chance it. I'll end up frying them next week on the trip, just wanted to get everyone's thoughts.

If it smells strong soak it in milk for 20 or 30 minutes before frying it. It'll be fine if it isn't freezer burned, though.

As long as its not freezer burnt, let it rip. I do. Obviously not as good as fresh, but hot grease and cornmeal on white perch is good regardless.

I was really just looking for one to have an excuse to use them. So I am good, thanks all!

It's good. I'd eat it if was stored in Ziplock bags.

On a related food issue. I got the fatty cravings at midnight last night. I saw some old vanilla cake frosting on the top shelf. I think the best by date ended like three years ago. I opened it and tasted it. It seemed fine, so I took another taste. That's when I noticed something was off. It started to burn my tongue. Kinda had the taste of burning/melting plastic. Fatty went back to bed wiser, but unsatisfied.
