Same experience. I’ve had Runza a few times traveling through the plains states. I don’t get the hype that the locals give it. The ground beef has little seasoning and the bread is too soft.

They love this place in southeast Nebraska.
The Runza which was posted above. Is basically a bierocks. Which I had a lot as a kid in school lunches (NE KS).
I have personally never been to a Runza, but they are everywhere. There is probably 20+ in Lincoln.
Them and Valentinos (which most probably have never heard of) are the main food vendors in Memorial Staidum.
"Their burgers are actually pretty good"
"Omg they have the best fries"
Are two common things to be said about the place when talking to a Runza fan.

I believe they also do chili and cinnamon rolls. Which is also popular in this area.
It sounds gross, but it's pretty good. Something about the sweet icing and spicy chili mixture hits the spot.
Just dip the roll in the chili or tear it apart and use it more like a tortilla.

As many of times I've been to Omaha, I've never seen this place. Oh well baseball season is coming

Griff's is uncannily similar to McDonalds, but with heavy mustard, instead of heavy ketchup. I ate many Griff Burgers while in Ruston.

This franchise was started by my grandmother Sarah “Sally” Everett. I worked at the original one in Lincoln Ne. where my family is from. Dad played baseball for the Huskers. I do make Runzas myself for friends in Louisiana.
I was also married to the late Dr. Robert Rasmussen, former LSU administrator. He loved Runzas too!

Sounds about like what I would expect from Midwestern cuisine.

Nailed it. Southeast Nebraska lives on these restaurants.
We'd always go eat at these places when visiting family.
Southeast Nebraska has a huge german/czeck population. A lot of those small farming towns are interesting. We'd always stop in Wilber and pick up kolaches when going back and forth between my parents familys.

There are now 87 in the Midwest. Grandma immigrated from Russia through Ellis Island as a child. Runzas were her translation of Russian Bierocks.
She started the original Runza Drive Inn to kelp her brother, uncle Al, who was suffering with PTSD from WWII and give him something to do.
If you watch Nebraska sports, you can often see fans wearing Runza Hats, die to Runza being part of Nebraska culture. The recipe is kept secret and production is extremely labor intensive which is why I will only make a huge batch once a year. They are delicious!
I reside in Bossier City now, after moving back when “Dr.Razz” retired from LSU after 41 years of service.

It's similar to Whataburger from 20 years ago. I don't think it has any similarities to McDonald's IMO.

That’s my grandmas franchise! I live in Louisiana but worked at the original Runza in Lincoln, my family’s original home. Dad played baseball for Nebraska. I make them for my Louisiana friends. Yummy!

Whataburger is a very good comparison to Griffs.
