Exactly. Even if you might be able to get off work and head right over there by 5:15 it's already overrun with students, tourists and the unemployed who've been there since 3:30 waiting for a table .. tables on the sidewalk seem to be where people just park themselves for 3+ hours. I never pass by on a Tuesday afternoon/evening and there's not a line up and down the block.

You can't even walk pass the place it's so crowded. I'm waiting for them to need a permit to block off the street.

This is a nice bit of hyperbole, although not far off.

Last time I was there we lucked out into some spots opening at the bar as we were checking in with the hostess.

Like I said, I guess I just get lucky. I've probably been 20 or so times in the past few years on Tuesdays and have maybe had to wait 15 minutes max for an outside table.

I ate at an outside table one afternoon, and we didn't have to wait. Couldn't tell you what day it was though, had a few painkillers

Got to love the threads when people meltdown over where someone else decides to eat

I thought this meltdown was more related to a certain someone deciding words have whatever meaning they want them to.

Great review and right on the money. The atmosphere can be cool for just hanging out, but I their food is mediocre at best.

Does Rum House/BR bring out chips and salsa?

Not for free. It's on the menu for $5 bucks. That gets you one round.

Tough to beat that.

There was a place in Lakeview that had really good tacos just like that, but it's no longer there.

Yikes. Although, based on the thread about criteria for judging Mexican restaurants, that should be a good thing

I suppose it all works out the same, everywhere. Places like La Carreta likely bump each entree $1 or so to compensate for the 'free' chips and salsa.

$5 does seem steep, though. Maybe not if it was 'bottomless'

I don't get the idea that if a place gives out free chips and salsa that disqualifies it from being good. The best mexican places I've been to. All in California or Texas, fwiw, start you off with complimentary chips + salsa.
