Does anyone have any experience with smoking on this recteq? Is it used more as a grill because of the ability to reach high temps?

There are people on this board that used it. They loved it for smoking and something called riot mode. They expressed displeasure with not being able to use it after the hurricane and promptly replaced them with a Weber.

nahh, just hooked that bitch up to my car battery and gotogo.

OP, I think lowest mode is a 200 temp, you will get plenty of smoke.

I’d say it’s a grill that’s capable of smoking.

It doesn’t have a drip pan or anything, so when smoking a pan needs to be placed under the grill grate

So there's no fat collection of any kind built in? That would be really weird.

its shaped like a 22inch weber kettle, in fact the addons including the misc grates fit in perfectly.

Have had mine about a week. Have smoked a tri-tip and burgers on it so far. I just put a disposable aluminum pan under the grate for drippings, and move food off the pan for searing. So far, temp control has been spot on with the PID compared to my own temp probes. Has a pretty big surface for a grill with such a small footprint, which is what I was looking for. So far so good.

I love mine and use it for just about everything. I don't smoke a ton of things, but I've done a pork butt which was so easy and turned out great. I do ribs fairly often and they are super easy as well. I find mine runs a little hotter when set on low temps, but on 200 degrees it's probably around 225 and gets plenty of smoke. It's nice to be able to smoke something low and then quickly crank the temp up if you want to. I love the versatility of mine.
