Is salt water black drum good? I always threw it back as a trash fish.

eta: I've never bought fish from Rouse's so I can't help you on the original question

It's not bad, if they're not too big.

I don't know what a freshwater drum is, though.

I think puppy drum (small, under 25" black drum) are superior to redfish in taste. It's usually cheaper as well.

I've caught freshwater drum (Gaspergoo) in Lake Pontchartrain before and mistakingly ate it. They look like regular drum, but are a lot paler. Tastes like rubber. And Rouses sold me some of that worthless trash as puppy drum.

If you are filling up the boat with 5 pound specs and 20" reds, then they are trash.

A very white fish. Next time keep a few and make ceviche out of them instead of tuna. Excellent!

Same here. I didn't start keeping the smaller ones until a couple of years back. Good eating fish. Still haven't tried a larger one because since I learned to keep them, everybody tells me the larger ones are no good. I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and give them a try one day to confirm that as well.

They tell you this cause most of the larger ones have little white worms throught the meat of the fish. Not a biologist and dont know what these worms are called, but most all of the larger ones I've attempted to clean have these.

the rib cage goes farther up and back than most fish so the filet is smaller, but the meat is great
