If you are referring to me saying it was gross then get it right. I'm a chick and it was my bday and for the price i expected nicer decor.

No one said the food was gross. The actual restaurant didn't look particularly nice for the price point, not to mention the horrible attitudes. Sake Cafe has a better look than Rock N Sake.
If you want to defend assholes, that's nice. Hopefully the BR location is better, but I won't give them a chance based off tonight.

I have no idea who you are, and whether you're a chick or not. I'm sorry they treated you badly .. believe me I think it's horrible.
But why exactly did you make reservations on your BIRTHDAY to a place you've never stepped foot in and knew nothing about? I know I would never want to gather a group at a place and risk it being ugly/gross. I have never been to NOLA location, but the BR one is gorgeous atmosphere-wise.
I'm not trying to be rude here, don't get defensive. That manager sounds like an a-hole and seriously needs to be dealt with. You should give the GM a call IMO. I just don't think the food and business model as a whole should be trashed on because of what happened before you experienced any of it.

I'm sorry, please point out where I said the way they treated you is okay.
Reading comprehension, dude. I am pretty sure I went out of my way to say that what they did was wrong in every post I've made.

Review of Rock N Sake in NOLA tonight... quote: If I wanted cheesey service, I could go to Olive Garden. They don't give you cheesy service and you're only mad because the location you went to treated you horribly so you're trash talking the food and business model as a whole. I 100% agree it was terrible they did that, but don't go off calling the place cheesy and "looks gross" because .. YOU'RE the one who planned to go there and had you been given good service when you arrived, you likely would have enjoyed it. I am deff. on your side about the way they acted, but they don't "need to act serious". It's not a place like Waka House. It's a completely different type of business.
The service I was provided includes how the manager acts to me. I expect good service the second I walk in the door. It's called the service industry after all.
Like I said, I never said the food was bad. I'll never know. But I do know the manager at this location is a douche bag that cost his establishment a considerable chunk of change considering there were a lot of open tables.
There is no excuse.

you know what you're going to get at the joints you've been to of course, but you could also take a gamble and if it pays off... HEYO!! best birthday dinner EVER!!!!

That's true. But for me personally, if atmosphere was super important, I'd check it out beforehand. Then again, I treat birthdays like I'm planning an exclusive social event

Then stop saying I should not take them seriously. The manager made it very clear he thinks awfully highly of himself and his establishment.
Just because the BR one was good for you doesn't mean you need to downplay what happened at the NOLA location.

FWIW, I think the "X amount must be there for your party to be seated" rule is such bullshite. But since most establishments have that for large parties, I make sure to tell everyone to arrive at a time that is at least 10 minutes before the "reserved time". That way, there's no waiting around.
When I had my reservations at BR location a few weeks ago, they called me that morning and confirmed the reservation and told me that 80% of my party had to be there to be seated. They also told me that when I made the reservation.
The reason for this is it isn't a place with a party room and it isn't a place that "takes reservations". At least, that's what I was told. Doesn't excuse the manager's attitude though.

I'm not "downplaying" your experience.

Fair enough. I just wanted to spend some money lol.

I heard good reviews and love sushi. It's all good lol we found a better place after all

Seriously though, I think you should contact a higher-up because that's terrible how it went down. Especially the $50 part. What was that for? It's not supposed to cost money to make a reservation. What the hell were they trying to say it covers? That's horrible.

quote:It seems like bullshite unless you know the other side of it. In a perfect world, decent people like us would make a reservation, knowing that everyone will show up. We all know that there's this thing called traffic in BR where people get held up, so it's seemingly unfair to those who are on time but won't be seated. As a former restaurant manager, I can tell you first hand that the reservation system is often abused. Very often in large parties, not everyone shows up. The difference between (as an example) reserving a table for 20 and having only 16 show up is huge. It completely changes where I would seat your party. Not a lot of restaurants casually have spaces for 10-30 people, and the floor needs to be strategically mapped out accordingly. If only 16 out of your reservation of 20 show up that's fine...shite happens, but I'll be able to seat you in the appropriate place for 16 people. Unnecessarily adding perhaps an extra table to your reservation takes away a table that I could have seated diners who are waiting perhaps up to an hour to sit. I now have customers that are not able to sit down, and the restaurant is making zero cash at the extra table you've reserved. That's the reasoning behind waiting to seat larger parties until most arrive. I'm not defending it, but this is why restaurants do this. Whether you agree with the practice is up to you.
I think the "X amount must be there for your party to be seated" rule is such bullshite.
Also, I've heard someone say that he'll make reservations at three different restaurants and let his lady choose which place to dine at the day of. I know it isn't fair to LL, myself, or anyone who's expressed concerns here about just wanting to sit down right away, but restaurants sort of protect themselves this way. No shows and reductions of reservations with the space already saved costs restaurants big bucks.
Taking a credit card number to make a reservation is starting to become more frequent, and it may be the norm in a few years.
I hated the idea of prepaying for gas at the pump, but now I have absolutely no choice in that matter. Gas stations had to put that policy in place not to piss off good folk like you and I, but because they were getting screwed. You may see more and more restaurants taking up this practice.

I definitely am contacting a higher up today. My mom will be writing to Tom Fitzmorris about it as well.
They said they $50 was to cover if we were no shows or only half the group showed up. I understand that completely, but if you won't seat me and it's your bullshite attitude that makes me and my whole group leave for a birthday dinner, you're not getting my money.
I'd feel horrible if a group of tourists had this experience and wrote off NOLA for good. (Of course, I'd also hope they would pick a better restaurant than a sushi place while here)
Apologies for the tone in some of my posts late last night, I was a wee bit intoxicated
