Restaurants cutting back hours

I was surprised to see Maxwell’s cutting back their hours.
-A while ago they closed on Sundays altogether.
-Had to call in deli orders before 6 for pickup.
-Recently tried to order pickup for dinner and was informed they now close the deli at 3pm.
This is the location on Highland.
It’s hard for me to believe these places can make it on lunch alone.
I understand the desire for reduction in labor costs but it seems lower volume comes along with it.
Not a good sign of a thriving economy…

Could also be lack of workers or their desire not to raise prices to pay the workers.

I have been to 5 restaurants in the last few months and all of them have closed before their times on their doors or on Google. It aggravates me because on some of those, I went out my way to go to and then arrive and it's closed.

Having better hours and a guaranteed weekend day off is a nice benefit to attract workers

I’m seeing more close on Monday or sometimes on Tuesday, and only serving dinner on Saturday with no lunch/brunch.

Jones Creek Cafe has been shutting down at goddamn 8:00pm for three years.

Maxwell's has went totally wuss, and eliminated entirely their two and three side salads "due to costs", even after having already Covid-spiked their rising costs by raising the price to keep up..now just proudly sells it by the pint or quart.
I still go there, but now only 1 out of every 4 trips I normally did..I have heard the same from other Maxwell's regulars.

It blows my mind how Cafe Mimi stays in business when it's open in downtown BR at the others of 6am - 2pm Monday thru Friday. I don't know how a downtown business can actually function with only 40 working hours/week.

This isn't mind blowing at all to me.
Vietnamese restaurants are often dead at night because people dine out more for the social aspect, and many casual Viet places don't even serve wine much less have a typical nighttime dining atmosphere.
Cafe Mimi kills it during breakfast and lunch hours on weekdays, so I doubt they need the limited nighttime business they might get being open at night compared to paying the costs of being open.
