One of my favorite restaurants I've ever been to is just outside OC, MD. There's usually less than 5 entrees to choose from, but there is no menu. Server recites/tells you all the options. I like that every time I go there the food is different than the last time.

Yes Ajax.
I'm all for trendy shite but it just seems like an inconvenience in that style of restaurant on the beach with families and kids etc.
I don't feel like walking around taking pictures of menus and bringing it back to my table so everyone can look at my phone, as suggested.

There's a place in Birmingham like that called Five. They have 5 appetizers, 5 entrees, 5 special drinks, etc. And it is different every time. Maybe not daily, but week to week. All written on a huge chalkboard on either side of the place. I guess limiting it to just a few selections would help. It would suck to have 9 choices and it all scrawled up on a chalkboard to where you couldn't read it.

Haven't been there yet. Waiting to hear some good reviews. The Blind Tiger in Bay St. Louis does not have menus either. They have 5 or 6 standing entrees that are on large chalkboards around the building. They also have chalkboards with the specials.
We are regulars so we usually only need to look at the specials chalkboard or ask the waiter. It is not a big deal in the casual restaurant that only has a small menu.

And it's awkward when sitting at the table under the board and people have to come to table to read because there writing is small or the placement of board is an bad spot that is difficult to see.
