Looks like the wife and I will be in Lyons for a weekend this summer. Looking for recommendations on places to eat, or specific dishes to try. Thanks in advance.

I honestly don't remember any specifics, but you will eat well.

Salads Lyonnaise is good and common. It’s croutons, pouches eggs , lardons with a Dijon vinaigrette. Tart Lyonnaise is worth a try too. There is a local dish called quinelle, which is a fish dumpling in a lobster sauce.
There is a place called Victor Hugo Kebab.
It’s on Victo Hugo Blvd by the large public square.
Great kebab. Get the Kebab “taco”
Paul Becose is a verybig time French chef from Lyon. He has various restaurants in the area with varying degrees of niceness and price.
Mussels de Leon is a great mussels restaurant. Not local food but I ate There a few times when I was there.
LSU law’s abroad program is based there do you may get some good answers.

Gosh, driving through that place SUCKED. We just stayed on the road and headed to down to Vienne. I know this doesn’t help much but Vienne was amazing.

I go to Lyon for work to pretty often so if you have questions ask away
Bouchons (typical Lyonnaise restaurant)are unique to Lyon, and are a meat/heavy cream lovers paradise. Bouchon Thomas, Le Garet, and Daniel et Denise are really great.
Quenelles are from Lyon and are fish dumplings with often a crawfish cream sauce
If money isn’t an object, then there is Paul Bocuse Restaurant. It’s just north of the city, and is a pilgrimage restaurant for foodies. The food is classic and decadent. It is a before-I-die type place.
La Mère Brazier/L’Ébauche/L’Atelier des Augustins/La Maison Marie all good places.
A cheap spot that’s very good is Le Book - Lard
Neighborhoods:
Best neighborhood is Croix Rousse up the plateau it has a market everyday in the main square until 1pm. It has the best bakery in Lyon (Partisan) and the 2nd best croissant (Maison Jolivet) (only 2nd best because the flakiness/texture isn’t where it should be but the flavor is fantastic). Sébastien Bouillet has 3 shops here and one does the best macarons in the city. Croix Rousse is considered the village within the city. Pralus has a store here but also many around town and in Paris...make sure to get the Praluline (the original praline brioche. Praline in Lyon is pink candy covered almonds)(these candies and brioche are unique to the Rhône region, but now spread throughout France)
Vieux Lyon is the old town and more touristy. Largest and oldest intact medieval architecture in France
The Presqu’île is the central peninsula between the two rivers. It is the main downtown and looks like Paris as far as architecture. Place Bellacour has the tourist office if you want to grab the museum/metro pass. Second or the first best place to stay for a short visit depending on what you prefer.
Best museums:
- Beaux Arts (art)
- Confluence (its decent but has great views of the confluence of the Rhone and Soane Rivers)
- Musée Malarte (north of town: old eccentric guy who owed taxes had collected a shite ton of cars and motorcycles since the 1890s, and the city took his assests and turned his mansion into a museum. Truly the best car museum I have ever been too, and has pretty views atop its hill)
Ninkasi is the big local craft brewer in town and has multiple outposts. Good beer and burgers
Definitely go check out Notre Dame de Fourviere in the ancient Lugdunum part of town. Amazing views and one of the prettiest cathedrals in the world.
Also in Lugdunum is the ancient Roman ruins you can walk around
