What says the F&D? Is it okay to play kids videos/games while eating dinner at a sit down, white linen table restaurant? Is it rude to ask someone to turn down the video?

If it keeps your kids quiet and not bothering other people, why not?

Depends on the restaurant. If you're at Olive Garden, it's rude. If you're somewhere nicer, it's still rude but understandable

And yes, having obnoxious kids out at restaurants is shitty before anyone brings that up

then it isn't bothering other people. The thread is about decent restaurants that aren't blaring mariachi music. If your child's brainwasher is bothering the table next to you, there's nothing wrong with that person asking you to turn it down/off. The "establishment" is just another person asking you to turn it down. Why should that carry more weight than the person you are bothering?

Get out of your feelings baw. I've already said that I don't condone tablets or other forms of video to entertain children at dinner, but that doesn't mean that the person at an adjacent table should say something directly to them about it.

The appropriate conduct would be to have restaurant staff handle the issue.

Again, what are you going to do if you say something about it and they refuse to adhere to your suggestion? This is why you should let the restaurant handle it, you have no power to control the patrons at the other table.

You truly don't understand the difference in authority between a random patron of a restaurant and the restaurant staff?

Do you understand they don't get paid to police your parenting?
Are you not able to respond in a rational manner if someone asks you to turn your kid's brainwasher down? Why would you respond differently to the same request if it comes from a 22 year old waitress?

Bring headphones. Tablet + Headphones + quiet kids = absolutely no one will care what your kids are doing. Hell some of the white linen establishments in N.O. are the most loud and raucus

I don't bring my kid to places like this yet. I'll break out the tablet at casual places though to help keep him entertained.

So, it's your responsibility as a random patron at a restaurant to police someone's parenting? It's on the restaurant to ensure that the atmosphere of the restaurant is acceptable. It is their restaurant after all.

Are we referring to me? Because my answer to these questions could be completely different than someone else's answer. Some people would respond rationally, some people would respond in an outrageous manner. Regardless, the request coming from someone in a position of authority would weigh more than it coming from a random patron.

Your takes in this thread are terrible

I wouldn't really give a shite what you thought about my parenting Also kinda funny you keep talking about electronics as "brainwasher" while you're posting all throughout the day on the internet.

I have never had this happen with kids on electronics, but I have had to ask a waiter to talk to an adjacent table about their loud cursing in front of my children. I felt like a bitch getting the waiter to talk to them instead of just saying something myself, but it really is the restaurants place to police their atmosphere.

frick no. If your kids aren’t old enough or well behaved enough to sit still and carry on a conversation in a restaurant and have to be pacified with electronics, then they should not be there.

We’re raising a whole generation of social misfits and this is part of the reason.

They usually are, but then again I don't rely on restaurant employees to speak for me when I can just as easily do it myself.
Its a sad world where I can't ask you politely to turn your kid's tablet down so everyone can enjoy themselves without you getting your panties in a knot.
ETA: in that scenario, you are the problem for someone else having to address it in the first place.
