Yeah, I hear very mixed things about it. Either people love the food or hate it. Same with the service & how Urbanspoon has scarred me for life from eating there with these cockroach horror stories at Pinetta's
.

But, you´re a tourist.

So you are confirming we tourists get shite service in Europe? I doubt that happens as much in the us. I would venture to guess tourists in the us get better service.
And I should add we are often with locals as we have friends who live over there. It's not a tourist thing exclusively.

Yes, unfortunately, depending upon the establishment, there is a bit of disdain.
I´d have to know what level of establishments you go to when in Europe.
ETA Just saw the ´we´re with locals´part.
Not sure what to say. I´ve been in snobby places where they know whom I´m with, and they´re a regular, and specials or the norm for said individual are proffered up, and dealt with ASAP.
I´ve also been in slow situations, but typically due to trying to get clear certain spices and cooking methods, as well as the raw material.
Nevertheless, my experience has been, Europe of culinary culture, aims to please, that is to say, Southern Europe, and the rest, deal with it.

That doesn't make me want to eat there.

Just average places.

I'm generally in Northern Europe. Never been to Spain. Too hot in July and I want to get away from the Texas heat when I go over there.

You must come to the north of Spain. A hot day for us is 78 degrees. People only wear shorts on the beach.
Anyway, what I said, and would like to clarify, is that an establishment known for something (in the North) will be attentive. An average place, unless you´re with someone they know, will not give a shite.
In the South, even an average establishment, if engaged with normal humane functioning on your part, and knowing you´re a tourist, will aim to please, normally. They may possibly fawn over you.

What city? I want to go to barthelona and see some Gaudi.......and hot Spanish chicks. But I look at the temps in July......my wife is a school teacher and so can't go until mid June at the earliest .

You will eat like a monster, and make Caplewood jealous, if you go to places like
La Coruña
Gijón
Santander
San Sebastián
All coastal cities. Best seafood in the world. Guaranteed.
Elaborate cuisine. Functional cuisine. Your choice.
Red meat is out of this world as well.
It´s similar to a mix between Northern California and Ireland, for you who don´t know Spain.
Tourists are warmly treated, no matter the level of restaurant. Not fawned over, but very, very well attended to.

I´m up late. As I told you, I´m in Atlanta now. I hope to go back soon. It´s still not clear when. I had hoped to be back in September.
no false bravado, I´m very, very serious.

Damn, woke up this morning and saw 37 replies and thought, "Wow, I'm going to have some great recommendations." Didn't know it was going to turn into a pissing contest and a European dining guide.

Don't be scared of the stuff you read here. The service is a little relaxed as stated earlier, but the food is good IMO. Order a bottle of wine and enjoy the wait for the food. That's what my wife and I do.
I usually get the lasagna or schnitzel.
It is either love it or hate it on here - kind of like Johnny's pizza (which is hands down the best pizza in LA).
