binder for the cheese. My grandmother made this for every family get together we ever had, except hers had the lettuce leaf included.

That looks like throwing up in reverse.

WTF is that white crusty stuff on that "cheese?"

Looks like crap to me...makes me thankful that I didn't grow up during the 1940s-1970s housewife recipe era.

Looks like something somebody's grandma would make on Thanksgiving to go along with her casserole with Ritz Cracker topping, spiral ham, jello mold, and ambrosia salad.

Exactly. The rural generation that grew up with the "new amazing wonder" that was canned and preserved food came up with some truly shitty recipes they forced down the throats of boomers and gen x'ers for decades.

Don't forget the coke salad.

Whoa now.

I'd give up all the new age "foodie" foodstuffs we eat now, just to have one fried chicken dinner, or deer meat stew, or Thanksgiving dinner made by my Maw Maw.

Just one.

I eat that at Crystal Grill in Greenwood every time I pass through. It is surprisingly delicious.

I swear someone has posted this before...

Or least I have some crazy deja vu going on right now because I have no idea how/why a "pear salad" seems so familiar and yet so disgusting

Didn't say there was anything wrong with these things. I'd love to eat a big plate of that as well.

I commented on the purported "cooking" that involves dumping a bunch of things from a can into a dish.

Yeah, wasn't something else with cheddar cheese? With cottage cheese maybe?

This thread has made me giggle. This looks disgusting. I'm pretty sure my Grandma used to make it.

ETA: She also had some amazing recipes from back in the day - but few of them, like this one, I couldn't stomach. May she RIP.
