One night in La Jolla

Know San Diego well, but haven’t spent a ton of time in La Jolla — will be there one night for work. It’s just me on the trip, so looking for any suggestions on a good restaurant with a bar that I can sit at for dinner. Any bars that I can think about going to after for drinks?

George’s at the Cove. Reserve your spot now unless you wanna chance it with a bar spot (can’t even picture where their bar is but I’m sure they have one).
Place overlooks the beautiful cove. It’s good food too, but super popular.
A warning - the seals smell awful, but it’s worth the view.

I think Sushi Ota is in that area. Some of the best I’ve had.

This is 1000% true. We were there last month, and it's awful. I can't imagine sitting anywhere near them and eating a meal, but that's just me.

The deck is just high enough that the smell decreases dramatically up there. I didn't smell it at all that high.
I couldn't handle it up close before lunch though. Blegh.

That makes sense - we went to see the seals, but made our way up the coast and down the coast to spend time out there, just to get away from the smell.

George’s at the cove is thousands off feet away and probably 8-10 stories above the cove. You can barely see the seals. Literally zero chance you can smell them from the outside bar or restaurant, which is a fantastic recommendation

Have drinks outside on the terrace at La Valencia Hotel. I understand the restaurant is very good although we didn't eat there. We just went there for drinks and didn't want to leave. The hotel is elegant and the ambiance at the bar is outstanding.

Not food related but if you want a cool experience there is a paraglider place in Torrey Pines. Flyport
