Remember this place?
I was cleaning out an old drawer and came across this. Fond memories.

Loved that place. Went there for lunch every time I was in town for work.

We were almost always the only table there during lunch so I knew to enjoy it while I could. Had to be a victim to location. It was strong.

location

How many different restaurants occupied this space?

I remember Vincent’s Italian cuisine shortly after Katrina and a Tex Mex restaurant called El Charro in the early 2000’s.

I remember first going to Omi when it was at LSU behind The Library. They shut down for a pretty long time before relocating to this doomed location. Rumor was that the chef went back to China for a few years then came back.

Vincent’s was in the building that Superior Grill is in on Highland. Unless they had two locations.

Are you sure you're not confusing Omi with Koi? I thought Koi was the first restaurant opened by the people who opened Omi, and the original owners Koi to new owners when they opened Omi off of Essen. The menu at Koi had a lot of the same dishes as Omi. And Koi was still open on State Street until January 2022.

You may be right, but my recollection is that Omi closed down and sold out to Koi which later closed, then Omi reopened a few years later off Essen. I’m probably wrong though.

Now that you mention it, I think you may be right that Koi was the original place at LSU run by the Chef who later became Omi. Once he left it went downhill and eventually closed to be resurrected as Omi. I remember the LSU location menu was all Chinese - you had to ask for the English menu separately which was a tattered sheet of paper. We used to bring our wine to either location. Great food and memories.
