It tastes nothing like a bird that has been dipped in oil. It's not user error, that's just the way it is.

Oiless fryers are amazing. Very simple and easy to use and taste just about the same as frying it.

You must have no tastebuds, these things don't taste anywhere remotely like dunking them in oil. It's different, it's not bad, it's just more like oven turkey or a gas grill.

I mean, it won't be exactly the same because you're eliminating 4 gallons of oil but to say it's more like an oven bird is just not true. I've baked injected turkeys before and it's really annoyingly tough to get crispy skin. Plus the Big Easy frees up our oven for other stuff. The oil pain in the arse just isn't worth it anymore for me and my cholesterol.

High temps, I would say it's closer to a gas grill than oven, but far from dipping a turkey in oil.

Thinking about buying one. Really different than an oven?

Honestly, I don't know as I haven't used one, but you can cook a great turkey in the oven with crispy skin as long as you are willing to cook it at 450 or so. I'm a big fan of high temperatures and short times in the oven.

I imagine the oil-less turkey fryer operates on this concept.

It's not a bad turkey but it's really not the same. I'm lazy and I deal with the oil just because it taste that much better, even though it can be a pain in the arse.
