Place is awesome. Like a trip to another country.

Most Atlanta transplants don't know that there is a city inside 285 and have never discovered it.

R2R, take a little drive out there and check it out.

I appreciate the Rouses being in the old Sewell building but I hate shopping at that store. The layout sucks and there are always bums in there.

Breaux Mart on Mag

I've never actually properly shopped there, I just run in from time to time if I'm in the area, need beer, and in a pinch. I like the look of it, though.

Went there yesterday to check it out. Holy shite what a place ! Bought a few things, some fruit I had never heard of, grabbed some cheese, checked out the beer / wine section. Really great prices. It's like a Sam's for world-wide specialty foods. I'll definitely be back. Think you need to go into a place so large and diverse with a recipe / list in hand, otherwise you're not going to be able to tackle it. Going to check out a couple other ATL farmer's markets this weekend.

I really miss living in Austin almost solely because I miss the HEB.

Great topic.

I will testify for the Bi-Rite Market, in The Mission District in San Francisco. Square-foot-for-square-foot, the greatest market I have seen. Almost everything you could ever want from a food market, in less than the space of a double-shotgun.

Honorable mention to Dean and Deluca (Soho, New York), for pioneering the concept of a deluxe supermarket.

1. Albertsons in Bossier City, Airline
2. Brookshires in Shreveport, Line Ave.

I like Wegmans a lot but I think he takes pics of dogs.

But Bi-Rite has to be the most expensive damn store ever...and I'm far from cheap when it comes to food. I was staggered by the wide selection of tiny batch artisanal chocolate bars, priced into the $8-$15 range. Plenty of other crazy expensive stuff all over that store.

It's true. I couldn't afford to do my bread-and-butter shopping there (although, what bread and what butter!).

But I've never seen anything like it. Their intense focus on quality, as a real full-service supermarket (not a precious boutique), amazed me.

The iconic West Side Market in Cleveland. One of the bright spots is this frigid tundra.

I've been there once when in town visiting my in-laws. Everything looked so beautiful. Got jerky for a friend and it was incredible.

Harris Teeter in South Carolina is awesome, but obviously that's not an option in LA.
