Zagat says Birmingham is the next big thing. The restaurant rating service said the Magic City is the next "hot food city." They said Birmingham has the most improved dining scene in the past five years.

This news is no surprise to people working in the restaurant indsutry in Birmingham. Thyme Randle is a butcher at Bottle and Bone, he said the Birmingham food scene has been growing just like the rest of the city. He said in the past few years there have been new restaurants opening in the city and new technology being used at restaurants. "It's kinda breaking away from the typical same menus Birmingham has."

Homewood is a bustling area already. I love their restaurants.

Birmingham has had one of the first, if not first, originator of Southern ingredients thru prism of European cuisine, in Frank Stitt for over 20 years. Zagat isnt actually breaking news here

Stitt is why my parents started taking trips to Birmingham. Some years ago, they'd stop there overnight when driving to Charleston and The Inn at Little Washington. They finally decided the one night stopovers weren't enough and made it a sole destination for short trips.

BO is a regular here and a damn good contributor.

I'm beginning to think you're an alter.

Not sure if an alter is a good or bad thing but if "BO's" wonderful contributions are as awe inspiring as the above post than I cant wait to read more. The Zagat article was a nice piece about the up and coming food scene in Bham. Frank, while a culinary badass, has been in town since 1982. The piece wasnt about Frank. Everybody with a clue about the subject knows what he has done and been doing for a long time. And why throw Frank a bone and leave out Carol Griffin, if you truly know what you are talking about? Sorry if I've offended sir, but the guys post seemed like a weird condescending effort to point out that he knew who Frank Stitt why dissuading what was an otherwise informative article. Good day

I just hate articles that are constantly being churned out by Johnny Come Latelys with the underlying tone of "those silly, backwards Southerners are finally eating food in restaurants and not in the outhouse."

I think Birmingham is more than the South's next hot food city, its one of the most established food centers in the natioN. But go ahead and get a hard on from a bone tossed by Zagat.

Articles like that are for the ill informed. And after they read them they become more informed. I can't really find anything wrong with it. But whatever

Because chez lulu doesn't hold a candle to any of Franks spots, yes continental bakery is great but like I said no where near highlands, chez fonfon, or bottega. Nice try at calling out/trolling blackenedout though

English village is in mountain brook. There is also a crestline village in mountain brook and I would say it has better places to eat than English village. All English village has is continental bakery/ lulu really. Crestline has Dyrons(the most underrated semi fine dining spot in the city), taco mama, mafiosos etc..
