New smoker, build pics

Hopefully the pics do it justice, she's just waiting on clear coat now. Ryan at Backline Fab has been awesome to deal with. I was originally recommended him by the guys at Mill Scale when I called last year for a 250 on a trailer. Had a couple unexpected expenses and the 250 got put on hold. This year I decided I was getting something new, but not a 250. Looked at a few different builders, but ran across some of Ryan's stuff on Instagram and after a few emails, like 200, it was decided.
He's also building a 24x30" Santa Maria grill. Should be in Austin in the next 2-3 weeks for pickup. I've got a few racks of SRF beef ribs and a couple Hassel tomahawks just chomping at the bit!

Awesome. Do you do competitions?

No competitions, just really enjoy cooking.

Kind of went "rat rod" style. Can't wait to see if the clear coat makes it pop.

Keep us up to date on what you smoke plz.

I like it you should add some rat rodish hardware. License plate wrapped around the pipe. Gear shifts for the pull handle. Hard because of hot spots but very cool for a barrel pit

Very nice.. I had to do a double take when I noticed it posted on a BBQ board I visit.

Direct, sold my reverse flow to get back to direct.

Interesting
What are your thoughts behind this? Reason I ask is because you seem to really know your stuff.

I could definitely do something like that to the firebox. It's insulated. With the smoker running around 300 and the fire around 1000 the top of the firebox was 140ish.

That’s badass......does the stack just fold down for transport?

I think the firebox on my last reverse flow was too small and I didn't like a front load round bottom. It was hard to clean as the door didn't go all the way down to the "peak" of the rounded bottom.
My other issue was the top grate was unusable except for stuff like hot dogs or sausage. It was entirely too close too the top of the pit. Reverse flow in itself is a little different. But like each pit, what you load where can affect temperature differences/hotspots.
There were quite a few small annoyances on my last pit, casters, tires always looking flat, lid...I look at pits like some people's views of starter homes, figured out what I like and keep buying lol.
I'm usually always doing multiple cuts of meat, so getting back to having a couple of different zones will be nice. Consistency in said zones are the key.

Mostly for transport. A cargo trailer roof can be the biggest pain in your butt.

That's a thing a beauty. What did that run you?

That's a silly question if you've looked at the pictures.

I think I came in right under 5k with taxes. Got a few extras like upper shelf lowered, competition fire basket, and a couple others.
Best part was lead time, only around 3 months. There a few podcasts with Ryan as the guest and you hear about his desire and knowledge of being a great builder/fabricator. Formerly built Hollywood sets and stuff.
