Looks like that's 2 votes for the Angel's Envy. It has definitely peaked my interest since it seems similar to some scotch that is finished in port wine casks as well. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like it's available in LA or MS yet. I'll have to ask my local guy and see if he can order it.

Thanks for the suggestion!

This stuff is... awe (wait for it) some.

I would kill a man to try the 25 year old version, but it's a bit pricey.

Try these out:

George T. Stagg Bourbon (knocked me down)

It was incredible and powerful. It's a bourbon and branch type. Simply no other way to do it.

Thomas H Handy Sazerac Rye Whiskey

This is a solid whiskey in it's own right, but it is the King of the Rye's.

Truthfully, these are superior whiskeys, and you will pay a superior price.

Oh, and Angel's Envy is pretty decent. Met the owner while he was touring; nice man.

I've heard about both of those a good bit. I think they're both part of the Buffalo Trace Antique collection. They are both pretty tough to come by around here and like you said pricey as well. I recently heard about one of the bars in downtown Jackson that's supposed to have a great selection of high end bourbon and they'll do a flight of them. Hopefully, both of those will be there b/c I'd definitely like to try both of them.

Went into the place I frequent to buy some more 1L bottles which had been priced @ $28 and they were sold out. Asked when they would restock and he said was not sure, so I went with the 750ml @ $22. He then refreshed my memory pointing out the 750ml sold for $32/bottle in 2010, so I had to tell him not to start extorting long time customers when the new order arrives.

I have had the E. Craig 18, very tasty but a little pricy for me. Thanks for the reviews.

There were a couple of appearances of Apple Pie in Justified last season--must be a regional thing.

I had some of that Black Maple Hill whiskey at Radio Bar last weekend... really good stuff and I probably wouldn't have tried it if not for this thread, so thanks!

Glad you enjoyed it. Definitely an interesting, but solid bourbon.

As for the Buffalo Trace, it's definitely gaining more and more notoriety. Their namesake is a great value bourbon, but they have a ton of great offerings as I find out more and more about them. I had been a fan of Blanton's for a while, then I learned that Elmer T Lee is made from the same mash bill but a younger whiskey. Rock Hill Farms is reportedly from the same mash bill as well and is a little older than Blanton's. If you taste the 3 of them in the same time, you get several different notes from each of them which will show you how much aging will change the bourbon.

Had a Blantons last night, at the bar I posted above. Im not a Bourbon fan, but it was pretty good. Still reminded me of puking my guts out in HS and college.

If I turned away liquor due to previous hangovers, there wouldn't be much to drink...

You more of a scotch guy?

That bar does have an impressive list of whiskey. Nothing terribly rare or fancy, but great list of moderately priced whiskey.

Im actually just getting into Scotch, but I can tell its going to dominate my future drinking.

I drank a ton of Bourbon at Bama, and then started getting into Irish Whiskey since. My go to cheap liquor is Jameson or Tullemore Dew.

The bar is great for an inexperieced Scotch drinker like myself, so much to try. The beer list is whats really impressive though.

I've got a similar story. I mostly had Crown Royal, Old Charter, and Jack Daniels growing up and had most of those through my first couple years of college. Started drinking more of the slightly better ones like Maker's, Woodford, etc through the later years and worked through several of the better mid range to low upper range bourbons through med school. Over the last year, I've been getting more into Scotch since several of my co residents drink it a good bit. I've like most of the Speysides and Highland single malts so far (probably b/c they spend most of their time in old bourbon barrels and sherry casks). Still not a big fan of the peated ones, but who knows as I move on.

Im the opposite with scotch. My favorites are the smoky peaty Islays. Oban, and Lagavulin are my favorites. Got my dad a bottle of Bruich Laddich that was great too.

I did have a McCallen 18 last night that was really good. Smooth.

Black Maple Hill (great with a finish that tastes like maple syrup)

Ole Smokey Moonshine: Apple Pie (literally a dessert)

Elijah Craig 18 year (never had it, but got it on a recommendation who said he'd put it up there with Jefferson's Reserve and Blanton's- big names to live up to)

Elmer T. Lee (one of the most unknown, great whiskey out there- made by the same distillery as Blanton's, Buffalo Trace, etc)

Can I find any of these in NOLA?
