My Mom's birthday is this coming Sunday & she will be returning home from a stay in a rehab facility after back surgery on Saturday. We're planning a big dinner for her bday & her favorite dessert is bread pudding. She always talks about how her grandmother used to make one with raisins & a meringue on top, not sure what kind of sauce she made. I appreciate the help& TIA

This is the one I grew up eating and it has raisins. My folks baked it in a large cast iron skillet. Make the sauce by stirring the butter, sugar and egg together over medium heat until it starts to boil. Pull it off the heat and add a healthy shot of bourbon and serve immediately.

My MIL makes this. It's amazing. You could raisins if you want, but it's great without.

I bake mine in pyrex that is sitting in a larger dish that has water. It turns out really creamy. I just follow southern living recipe, can't miss.

if you're really a rookie at it, sub a bought loaf of cinnamon raisin bread.
