What in the heck do you order? I have never paid over $10 for myself and I get a burger and fries for myself.

We each get the normal burger. Of course, the dude behind the counter assured us that the double patty normal burger is what we should get... made us think the singles weren't enough.

So we each got the regular burger and drinks and we split fries.

$22 total.

If you're spending ~$10 on a burger and fries for yourself, then $22 total is expected on 2 people after tax.
I don't like to pay that for fast food.. Not when I can pay the same at a sit-down restaurant where I get free refills, service, and better food.

You're just a chump then. Can't blame it on them.

Untrue. The "regular" normal burger meal is the double patty. Not sure if you've been there but the single patty is called the "Little Hamburger". It's put in a separate place on the menu and leads you to believe it's a kid's size burger. When we asked the worker what was normal sized, he said the regular one.. not the "little" one.

I don't know how many times I've repeated myself, but it's not a gross place and I'm not calling it that. I enjoyed the burger well enough. But it's "fast food".. no matter how you cut it. And I don't generally estimate over $20 for 2 people to eat fast food burgers.

The burgers are better than fast food quality.

And if you go to McDonalds and get 2 BigMac extra value meals it is gonna cost you like $14. I'd say Five Guys is quite the step up from McDonalds for $6 more.

Yes, but you're missing my point.

Fast food is a choice made to be cheap. I rarely even eat fast food and when I do, it's because I have no money.
If I'm going to spend $22 on food, why on earth would I eat it at a fast food joint when I can eat better quality, better service, unlimited drinks, etc. down the street at a restaurant.

When we choose fast food, $22 is not what we have in mind. If that were the case, we'd sit our asses down at Dearman's and have a burger that's 10x better and the same price.

Five Guys is obviously better than McDonald's, but it doesn't compete with McDonalds..
It's prices compete with sit-down restaurants. It may only be a $6 difference from McDonalds, but it's no difference from a better quality, local product. I'd probably eat the hell out of Five Guys if it were fast food priced.. even higher end fast food prices.

Dont believe you, what did you get at both places? What toppings how much meat? What drinks? Oh and five guys has free refills, it is the sit down restaurants that usually dont. Bacon Cheese burger, fries and a drink is 11.30. So no way a burger and a drink put you at $22.

If i go out to eat i usually dont get a burger. I prefer to cook mine myself, but Five Guys is def the way to go, you are paying for the quality of the food. I love their fries, some people dont, but its worth it for the fries alone.

at the risk of extending an already convoluted thread, the one thing about 5 guys that makes it different from other fast food burgers is the toppings you can get.

Grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, jalepenos, hot sauce, bbq sauce, steak sauce, relish and green peppers.

Of course they still have lettuce, tom., mustard, mayo, ketchup, onions, pickles.

You won't get that many toppings at almost any burger place, fast or sit down.

I feel the need to bump this thread.

I like both mugshots and five guys.I started going to mugshots anytime i was around starkville, tuscaloosa, and jackson back in 2007. The burgers were incredible the first few times, but then I started to notice a trend. they cook them too long, sometimes to the point of being charred on the outside.

But I was still very excited when mugshots came to BR.

The first two times i went it was "ok" but still a little overcooked

Today I gave it another chance and could not have been happier.

I had the juiciest savell that has ever been cooked, even a hint of pink in the middle! (which is against policy) This burger was by far better than any five guys burger I've eaten. I just hope they keep it up rather than it being "hit or miss."

One other thing: the mugshots building itself....sucks

It's cool. I definitely know where you're coming from. Every time I was in the area I would head over to Mugshots instead. However there were a few times I went that I was practically the only person in the place and they would take wayy too long on my order and sometimes couldn't get it right. I usually like their burgers but didn't feel like putting up with the service any longer.

I can't seem to remember a burger named the Savell though.
