re: Mid City for Lunch

In all reality Baton Rouge doesn't care too much about copying New Orleans. I think it is more of an insecurity of New Orleanians who are aware that the city is well past it's prime and Baton Rouge is no longer being treated as the ugly step sister. Sad but true. The powerbrokers, the politicians, the corporate executives, the banks and the money are pretty much gone and it's hard to realize they are not coming back.
Good food, good bread, good cocktails. Lousy politicians, infrastructure, business climate. A weekend tourist attraction at best.

Martini,
1) This is the food board.
2) NOLA's real GDP is by FAR the biggest of any area in the state. LINK
3) BR is great, but nobody outside of Louisiana knows where it is.
4) You should appreciate that you live only 60 miles from an international city. I appreciate living only 60 miles from Tiger Stadium.
5) You are nothing but a lot of hot F'ing air. Take your Johnny's pizza and shove it up your fat arse.
ETA: This was the most fun I have ever had posting on this website.

I normally stay out of these arguments, but I'll chime in just this once. New Orleans' infrastructure is not top class by any means, but Baton Rouge's is at least as bad. Carry on.

Relax, big guy, it was just a joke about Gertown and Hollygrove. Would it have helped it I put one of these
after it?
I will inform Trump and several other developers that BR is the only place in LA that is moving forward, and not to waste their money on New Orleans...while I am at it I will inform Ron Foreman, almost every major litigation firm in the state, and numerous other developers building down here.

Well done, Solo, 50 billion GDP for NO compared to 28 billion for BR...do you realize even at substantially rapid growth BR and rapid decline for NO (neither of which will happen because we are not ATL or Detroit), it would take 30 years to eclipse New Orleans....
but no...we are definitely just a rotting cesspool. We may as well give up now. Know of any places I can move in the bustling metropolis that is BR?

I agree...this seems to only work one way though.

Was busting Martini's nuts more then anything. I love BR, and Martini is almost always right on when it comes to food/drink, but sometimes you gotta take the gloves off.
Trump Tower is a long shot...

Its still scheduled to proceed...they have a green light from the city. I wish they would...the downstairs corridor of shops would be a nice addition to make the CBD more pedestrian friendly.
Martini certainly knows food and where to get good food in BR and NOLA, but his views on New Orleans as a cesspool (and his constant infusion of that opinion on a food board) is flat out ignorant. This city is a wonderful place to live. Katrina will go down as the turning point for us...in a good way.

You gotta admit, it's sort of sad when that's the last legitimate industry in the CBD.

It is sad...we once had tons of businesses down here, but BR is no different. Its kind of like the fat ugly girl making fun of a skinny ugly girl. Neither one is the belle of the ball, but if I am drunk, I am choosing the skinny bitch.
ETA: All of LA is in trouble...to call the flagship city (and the only city that has mattered on national and international level in the history of the state) is ridiculous.
NOLA has an infrastructure in which to grow, and we are actually recognized outside of the state. I personally think NOLA has infinite potential and experience a resurgence soon.

Pot kettle, kettle pot. You have your fair share of opinions posted on this board as well.
Trump ain't coming to town either.
That said, I made a detour on my way to the coast this past weekend and had a great Friday night dinner at Irenes. Panneed oysters and the rosemary chicken were just what I needed prior to continuing on my journey.

Almost always, if not always in response to someone injecting a derogatory comment about New Orleans that has nothing to do with food.
