I am new to this site and wanted to check out some responses to some of our favorite restaurants in Baton Rouge. I know that everyone has their preferences, but for us Serranos has been top notch for the last 10 years! They continually update their menus with varied and interesting items, utilize plenty of local seafood, and unlike all the other restaurants listed in this thread, have recieved over 30 local and national awards including Zagat best of every year. Also, they give large amounts of time and money to local childrens charties and causes. At the very least, this is something that none of the other establishments mentioned can say. I really don't understand the hate for Serrano's either. I think it's just as good, if not better, than most places in BR. Ninfa's being my favorite

Spammer.

PS - Serrano's in Baton Rouge sucks complete arse. I don't know why, but I have been there about 10 times and all 10 times the food was terrible. The one in Metairie is at least edible.

Not much in that area for Mexican but Ronnie's Ribs kick arse.

Haven't been to the LaTiendita. I think the little grocery next door closed no?

I personally like Mestizo's and really like LaReyana or however it is spelled. That guys wife is from Honduras and it's pretty authentic Central American.

Afreaux,

I think you are referring to La Reyna. Afreaux said the fish tacos were the best in town in a thread a few weeks ago. I still haven't tried it, but will soon.

Serranos is hot garbage.

I've been saying that long before this awful attempt at spamming the Food board.

It's still very much open, I actually ate there this morning, chorizo con huevos burritos, the owner joined me for breakfast. They own Los Gallos down the street, looks like they're going to stop selling alcohol there altogether on account of being born again, so La Tiendita has been closing on Sundays for the same reason. The Pinedas are some of the hardest working and nicest people you could ever meet, by all means please stop by and have lunch at La Tiendita.

The Honduran woman at La Reyna is the majority owner and runs the whole show, her ex doesn't have a real hand in the restaurant anymore.

I hadve eaten there once...for lunch and had the beef nachos - hardly an indicator of how good the food is. Nevertheless, the order was brought to my table within 3 minutes. Make me think the ole microwave is busy back in the kicthen. Errr...

The nachs, btw, were very average.

Afreaux, I had the fish tacos from La Reyna for lunch today. Very good. I'll be going back. There was a lot of stuff on the menu I'd like to try.

I had the fish tacos there last weekend, actually, always good. I don't think there's anything on the menu that I don't like, though I'm partial to the chicken dishes there (pollo con papas, pollo en mole) with flour tortillas.

Maria's, in Denham Springs, has been there for many years. Everything is homemade and very tasty.
