In Memphis for the week looking for good (safe) places to try. Went to Central bbq last night and better places in Louisiana.

Should go to the Peabody at least once just to see the ducks.
Foodwise I was not impressed when I went. People like Huey's burgers, my friend from there likes Corky's bbq (a local chain).
Went to Rendezvous when i was there for a wedding and it was pretty good, but not somewhere I'd tell people is a must try

Elwood’s Shack and Germantown Commissary are two of my favorites. I’m sure someone else can give you input on some the more upscale establishments. I tend to mostly just eat BBQ when I’m up that way.

Nice At Night - Automatic Slims across from the Peabody.
Cozy Corner BBQ - (Go during daylight) BBQ Cornish Game Hen, Ribs and BBQ Bologna Sandwich. (Its not that stuff with the red pull ring on it.)
Blue Plate Cafe on Beale is also good on Memphis Ribs.
Topps BBQ - Use the one on Union across from the hospital and avoid the Q. Get the cheeseburger!
Rendezvous- Just do it and get it out of the way. Not really much there for BBQ greatness - the sausage and cheese plate is the best thing on the menu.
Gus Fried Chicken - Nuff said. Pro Tip: Get a container of Ranch Dressing for dipping.
Breakfast: Brother Junipers near the University. Dern near anything on the menu.
Lunch: Soulfish Grill. Great smoked wings, even the fried okra is something good there.

If you end up out near Germantown, Las Tortugas Deli is awesome Mexican, but it is more of a lunch place than dinner.

Had gone down last time I passed through around a year ago.

I take great pride in feeling like I discovered that place among my social circle. Great place.

It’s definitely an unassuming place, sitting in the corner of a Lowe’s parking lot. A guy my dad works with turned me on to it. Our whole family likes it. They’ve got enough of a variety there that even the pickiest person should be able to find something to eat.

I could eat Gus’s twice a day for a week straight and not get sick of it.
I do agree that Memphis bbq is overrated
