I think gotmead is where I saw that recipe.
Also I would definitely recommend using cubes instead of chips. With cubes, there is less surface area and it takes more time to impart flavors into the mead. The extra contact time allows some of the more subtle flavors to emerge, whereas with chips basically all you get is wood.
