I used to love eating Matherne's plate lunches, but since Robert took over, I find the quality of their plate lunches has gone down.

They are using new recipes that just lack some of the flavor of the old Matherne's recipes. Also, they are serving this chinese food as well which I guess is ok for variety's sake, but who the frick who goes to get a plate lunch and orders Chinese food?

The good news is, the Robert butcher meat looks great. Orders of magnitude better than what Matherne's used to have.

Isn't the new grocery store supposed to be like a "gourmet" grocery?

This is what happens when you change something that doesn't need to be fixed.

I knew the deli was going to suffer. That fried catfish was my damn favorite. Thank God they retained the downtown location, I can still get my fix. Spoke to one of the managers this morning about the change and what happened to Mathernes employees. He said, "they offered us positions, some of accepted and some of us didn't."

Don't forget the Bluebonnet location. I ate their delicious plate lunches quite often when Perkins Rowe was under construction.

I think Robert's is supposed to acquire the Bluebonnet Matherne's in April.

Matherne's announced yesterday that they are not selling the Blubonnet location.
