Here's my theory...if the hopper has lots of fuel, not much heat gets to the top. When you leave it be, and you get to just a layer of hot coals at the grate, the heat is higher than the materials are designed for. I do this a lot because I bought this cooker to be able to set meat and then go fishing/hunting/golf/whatever.

Just got my 560 for Christmas. Love this thing already. Is there an aftermarket griddle for the 560 that replaces the grates? Or just have to buy a griddle to place on top the cooking grills?

My 560 is starting to fall apart. Big chuncks of metal are starting to rust off. I give it another year or two max. Admittingly i dont cover it or clean until i am ready to cook again.

Thats an easy rebuttal but i have had cheap
Old smokeys that lasted for an extremely long time. i knew it was made cheaply going in so no big deal.

I love the concept though and will scoop a kamado next time they go on sale and get the temp Controller add on
