A few years back, someone told me to buy Clan MacGregor , add a jigger of sherry wine, and let it sit for a month for the flavors to meld. They said the result would be like Macallans.
It's not Macallans, but it will make a nice whiskey. I've experimented a bit and now use 2 jiggers of sherry and 1 jigger of rye whiskey.
Makes an everyday sipping whiskey that I like and those who have tried it seem to like it too. I let it age for several months. Considering a 1.75 of Clan MacGregor runs you about $22, it's an inexpensive everyday whiskey.

What brand sherry did you use? For $22.00 I might try this.

I've used plain ol' Taylor's and also tried Osborne. I think I liked the Taylor's Cream Sherry the best. I don't know that much about Sherry, so I'm still exploring that part.
Given that Macallans and other big distilleries sell most of their product for blended scotch and Macallans is aged in sherry casks, it's easy to see how this kinda works.

I'll second the Glenmorangie. I'll be thrilled if someone can recommend a singlemalt scotch as good or better for under $40

I'll third the Glenmorangie. It is very hard to beat for the price. Just a very nice scotch whisky.
