Anyone ever made this before? I want to try and make some but scouring the Internet I found almost too many variations….. was curious if anybody has made it or has had one that can shed some light into the version they had. My coworker was gushing about this restaurant in New York, where he had it and said it was one of best things he’s ever eaten… said it was mostly green beans with a few chopped onions and a little bit of meat, sounds pretty simple but looking online I don’t think that it is.

Loubieh is a traditional Lebanese dish made with green beans slowly cooked in olive oil, tomatoes, onions, and garlic. It’s usually served warm with rice and. can be vegetarian or sometimes include beef or lamb. The flavor is simple, savory, and comforting — classic Lebanese home cooking

That's the problem with Mediterranean dishes, especially if they become popular in the ME and Central Asia. You'll literally have dozens of variations, probably hundreds when you take into account the local version of each within that huge area.

My philosophy on these foods is that you have to develop your own and start with the ingredients you think will work best for you, and then try different additions until you create your own. And just because you do it this way doesn't even likely remove the "authentic" label as I'm sure some village somewhere has this as their authentic version.

I’ve never cooked it. I eat it once a year at the Lebanese food festival in Birmingham. Their version is best described as overcooked green beans. I don’t hate it by any means, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat it.

I will try making it sometime this summer. It sounds pretty good, but not exactly earth-shattering. I could see it with pole beans and fresh tomatoes. I would probably go easy on the allspice and maybe start with a few slices of bacon.
