Logs for a stickburner

Might be an obvious answer but I can't seem to get good info on this.
I have been thinking about getting a stick burner.
Live in NOLA Metro area.
Where can I get wood?
I have been told I can call tree company but I don't know what wood is what. I would have to take their word for it.
Thanks

Most tree companies in LA sell pecan and oak because that's the most popular hardwood trees around. If they're selling for firewood, it has to be hardwood. The only real difficulty is trying to get a single species. I've gotten real good price quotes on pecan (my personal favorite) only to arrive and see obvious differences in the wood. I believe that the word is out there that smoking is getting more and more popular and the guys are jacking up prices for single species "volumes" of wood.

You can also get wood at Academy. It will be more expensive, but they have a pretty good selection of logs here in N. Texas.

If you don't mind a little drive the fruit stand on Hwy 21 in Madisonville still has some firewood for sale. I think it is probably oak.

Check Craigslist, get yourself a moisture meter and go to town. I use "The Firewood Guys" in BR, they are more expensive than your average Craiglister but are honest and have true cords of wood. So it all works out to be about the same.
I'd closely watch whatever you buy in a store, almost every time that is kiln dried wood. Easy to light, but burns quick and gives less flavor than non-kiln dried.

Kiln dried.
OP, Craigslist is your place. Most will even deliver for free if you get at least a half cord.
