Live Crawfish Grading, is this just a non Louisiana Thing?

When you get live Crawfish in Houston they usually give you the size of the Crawfish when buy them. Place i'm getting mine at on Sunday has Medium Mix, Field Mix, Preferred Large, and Jumbo Graded Washed. I never bought live Crawfish in Louisiana but I heard people say they don't do this. I just hear they Crawfish were $1.29 pound. BTW the Crawfish I'm buying are from Louisiana.

What I've heard in Louisiana:
Medium Mix= Medium
Field Mix= Straight Run
Preferred Large= Large
Jumbo Graded Washed= Selects
Also, the small are sold as "peelers".

They grade them for Louisiana sales too. They just have to get plentiful before you see that happen.

Yep. We only grade out selects when customers ask for the most part. Usually just field run and right now those are mostly 1-2s which IMO are my preference anyways.

Thanks for the reply's. Grading might just be a way they can sucker people out more money that don't know any better ie. many people in Texas.

More meat in the middle to large grades .Selects aren't worth the premium to me once they are available.
