How can you not understand it? It's extremely simple and wouldn't take any longer than you deciding if there's a half or 5/8ths in a bottle.
If 0.215 is tax. How much would it be of a Beer of $3.00
Add bottle weight, Subtract bottle weight... Why not just give me the weight of the product and leave the bottle out of the equation?
What happens when you add a bottle? Do you add it's weight again to the beginning weight to be subtracted out later?
Thanks again for all the replies... Thank You Vets... Us old retarded WWII Collectors appreciate it...

I get the feeling you're in the mindset of doing this all manually with pencil and paper, in which case of course weighing the bottles won't make sense to you.
Tell you what, if I can deliver a product which guarantees the following:
1. 10 seconds to add a fresh bottle to the shelf
2. 5 seconds per bottle to inventory the shelf
3. to-the-shot accuracy per bottle
How much would you pay for that?

Then I'll start working on it. It will be a scale with integrated NFC tag reader, a barcode scanner, and LCD touchscreen with idiot-proof UI. It will recognize type of liquor/bottle by barcode and will alert you if it doesn't know it yet so you can type it in. It will recognize individual bottles by the NFC sticker that you stick on them (cost less than 10 cents each, possibly as cheap as 1 cent). It will generate reports detailing current shelf stock levels, daily/weekly/whatever sales, and also tell you if a specific bottle has not been weighed in a while (like if they poured the last shot and tossed the bottle) so you can mark it empty. It will *not* be yet another POS system, but it will output data in standard formats in case you want to integrate it with a POS.
Something like Barpatrol but simpler and faster.
I have several local bars that would let me run a pilot program. Email me at my username at gmail if you want updates.

There are services that do it for you. I have been using Barmetrix in the BR area weekly for almost a decade. They weigh every bottle, weigh every keg, and count every bottle/can beer in the building. They then provide detailed records of variance, wholesale/retail loss, loss prevention ideas, etc.
It’s an invaluable tool, especially for high volume establishments.
