So, my son (who goes to college out of state) has a best friend who is living with us this semester since his dorm arrangement fell through. Kid is eating us out of house and home, but one thing really annoys me. He eats my restaurant leftovers. Last night, wife and I went to a fancy steakhouse and came home with leftovers, including some delicious sides. This morning, all the sides are gone. Consumed over night. He has done this repeatedly.

My rule is: If its home cooked for the family, leftovers are first come, first serve. But, restaurant leftovers are the property of the person who ordered the dish. Am I the only one that sees it this way?

Sounds like you need to have a little meeting with your tenant.

I do need to have a meeting with him. I'm just somewhat shocked that he could somehow find this acceptable!

start invoicing him for his consumption.

Where the hell is his parents?

This seems more OT to me.

Christ...that kid really has some balls on him!

You've got to set some ground rules, man, being he's seemingly oblivious to common sense manners.

I'd flip the frick out.

That young man has some balls! I can't imagine being that comfortable at another man's house.

You better establish some sort of dominance over that little twerp or he will be trying to frick your wife before long, rather than just eating your filet and potatoes au gratin.

LOL, you’ve got another kid living at your house, not a grownup. Are you sure he’s leaving at the end of the semester? If so, finals are just around the corner. You’ll be free of the mooch when the term ends. Or will you....

I'd wait until the punk was in the kitchen and then casually open the fridge and then ask out loud, "Who the F**K ate my leftovers?" See if he mans up or not.

But, are you saying that he eats free at your house while he's living there anyway? Wonder what he's doing with the money he was supposed to have paid for his dorm and food? (Sounds like his scheme worked)

If he's a close enough friend of the family to live with you, he's a close enough friend to get his arse whipped.

I was wondering that very same thing. What was told to him when he moved in? "Help yourself"?

We did tell him to make himself at home. I never thought I would have to set such a boundary. My own kids know better than to eat somebody else’s leftovers. It’s downright communist to think he can do so!
