I saw a thread on here about the best place to buy a king cake. Does anyone bake their own? If so i was wondering which recipe yall use.

Im sure we could buy one from somewhere that would be better but We have kids that enjoy baking and figured it would be a fun thing to try out.

This one is the initial one that caught my eye to bake. I know yall are WAY more knowledgeable than me when it comes to King Cake.

Make king cake beignets

Can of cinnamon rolls. Cut each disk into 4th, roll into balls.
Deep fry.
Drizzle frosting and add gold/green/purple sprinkles.
Maybe inject with a cream.

King Cake

My students made KC last year using this recipe. They came out pretty good. You won't be able to reproduce the results of the commercial bakeries, but you'll make a tasty treat. Make sure you use a dough conditioner. It helps develop a soft crumb and thin crust. You will need additional melted butter to brush on the king cake after in comes out of the oven. This will prevent a hard crust from forming.

Dough
4c all-purpose flour
1T dough conditioner
1t salt
4oz butter (melted)
¾c milk
2 eggs
2T vegetable oil
1/2c warm water (100°F)
1/4oz yeast
½c sugar

Filling
4oz butter (melted)
½c sugar
1T cinnamon

Glaze
6c powder sugar
4oz water
6oz butter (melted)
1T vanilla
1T imitation butter flavoring

MOP
Dough
-Mix yeast, 2 T of the sugar, all of the oil, and warm water together and set aside for 10 minutes.
-In a mixing bowl of a stand mixer, whisk to combine eggs, milk, and melted butter.
-Add the mixture from step 1 & step 2 to the bowl and allow to combine.
-Add flour, dough conditioner, salt, to the mixture, fit the stand mixer with a dough hook and mix to combine on low.
-Turn machine up to speed 5 for 5 minutes.
-Turn off machine, place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, and leave in a warm draft-free area of the kitchen to proof until doubled in size.

Filling
-Place sugar and cinnamon in a bowl and whisk to combine (this makes the cinnamon easier to incorporate) then add butter and combine.

To Finish
-Remove dough from proofer, punch down & remove it to a lightly floured surface. Roll out dough to ¼” thick rectangle, and cut into three long strips.
-Coat each strip with butter, avoiding the edges. Leave a 1” edge uncoated and sprinkle with filling.
-Roll up and braid. Bake in a preheated oven @ 350F for 8 minutes, rotate & continue baking until light golden brown.

-Remove from oven and brush with melted butter. Allow to cool completely before glazing.

Glaze
-For the glaze, place everything in a bowl and mix with a whisk. Add water, 1 tsp at a time, to the glaze if it is too thick.
