I know there was a post on Koz’s closing but did not see this. I will love to see what comes out from what they claim will be “upscale deli”. Upscale deli is not lunch type sliced meat.

I do see they are bringing over some of their other dishes which would be great. Their cochon pizza is a staple.

Eater
“The new deli will be in the spot recently vacated by Koz’s

Some of the folks behind Mid City’s Katie’s Restaurant & Bar, Scot and Stephanie Craig, are taking over the Lakeview space recently vacated by Koz’s to open an “upscale deli” this spring, reports Ian McNulty. The new deli has not yet been named.

The menu at the new spot will pay homage to a couple restaurants. Expect the “the legend” po-boy from Katie’s, which combines New Orleans barbecue shrimp and cochon de lait, as well as a few other Katie’s dishes. It’ll also feature a few throwback sandwiches from Charlie’s Delicatessen, which occupied the same space before Katrina and before Koz’s moved in. Scot Craig grew up eating the Moon sandwich (ham, roast beef, provolone, Swiss, coleslaw, and Russian dressing on a whole muffuletta loaf) at Charlie’s, so that one will be on the menu. Stephanie Craig grew up in an Italian neighborhood in Missouri, and there will be plenty of influences from that as well.

Koz’s closed last week after nine years at the location so that the owner could go back to school and pursue another career. The original Koz’s in Harahan remains open.“

Advocate

There’s a new plan underway to turn the former home of the Lakeview po-boy shop Koz’s into an upscale deli.

This new eatery at 515 Harrison Ave. does not yet have a name, but the people behind it are well-known in the business. Scot Craig operates the popular Katie‘s Restaurant & Bar in Mid-City, and he’s developing this new Lakeview deli with his wife Stephanie Craig.

They expect to open in the spring following a round of renovations.

Some specialty dishes from Katie‘s will be on the menu here (like "the legend" po-boy, which mixes BBQ shrimp and cochon de lait). But Craig emphasized that this new eatery would not be a second Katie’s.

In fact, in some ways the new plan here goes back to a previous restaurant at this Harrison Avenue address.

Before Hurricane Katrina, the building was home to Charlie’s Delicatessen. Craig believes the neighborhood is ripe for a similar concept today.

I think it's going to have an Italian spin. It's going to be so nice to go get an Italian cold cut sandwhich in the hood!

I've been wanting something like this to open in Lakeview for awhile. Koz's was awful the last time I ate there.

NOLA as a whole could use a few more Delis. I love a good poboy, but it's hard to beat an italian-style sandwich.

Scot is an old family friend and I practically grew up at Katie's in the 90s. Happy for the success he's found and what he's been able to do with the place post-Katrina.
