I have seen a lot of excellent small places die when they step up
this is the key .. keep it simple .. control the overhead .. control the food cost .. jasmine's is awesome and they are great people too ... i hope they never grow and stay where they are ..

I'm gonna co-sign on the crab cakes ... awesome -ness.
I tried them for the first time when they were one of the only places in the area serving food after Gustav.(i think they got a lot of new customers that way) ... they were serving the crab cakes in a fried ball form, and i got some for my Grammaw who had come to stay with us for the storm.
Every time my Grammaw came to visit after that, that's all she wanted for lunch. Although crab "balls" aren't on the menu, they were more than happy to oblige me every time and just roll the cakes into a couple of balls before frying them ... same price.
That's how you run a business. Food service is about the service as much as the food. That's why they've been open a few years now and i hope they continue to do ok.

Seriously? I find the crab cakes at Demsey's to be really good.
I've never eaten at Jasmine's but I've been wanting to give them a try for some time now. I need to swing by for lunch one day this week!

From another poster... "Ok I'm going to say they have the best crab cakes in BR. Presenation may be lacking but there is actual lump crab in the cake with awesome remoulade."
Dempsey's crab cakes are not like that. But if you like them, that's all that matters.

My personal favorites btw are the rocket shrimp, crab cakes, meatloaf, and they have the best sweet potato caserole i have ever had in my entire life. Its almost like a dessert.
