Is the “dirty-bathroom” test outdated and overstated?

We’ve all heard a dirty bathroom is a sign that you shouldn’t eat at a restaurant. In my experiences, especially abroad, I’ve learned the opposite is true and have savored some really good meals.

I’ve savored some to go when I’m out of town and have a mini fridge.
Use your feet to open the door after you wash your hands. Toss the paper towel in the can as the door closes.
Clutch move.

Eh. If foods good, I'm eating it. Don't care what the bathroom looks like.

Who tf walks into a restaurant and heads straight to the bathroom to give it the old paul allen once over?

Customers worry about too much in attempt to try and judge things.
"I won't touch anything in the bathroom" as they touch the menu that everyone, including the guy who didn't wash his hands, has touched. They don't wash their own hands before eating and then lick their fingers during their meal. As they get sick they say that the food must have been under cooked.

Nothing says good eats like a piss covered floor

This so depends....restroom standards vary widely across the world, so what’s considered filthy in Germany would be sparkling clean in some US cities. To me, it depends on the kind of food being served. Dirty sushi restaurant? No thanks. Filthy friggitoria (fried food joint) in Sicily? No problem. 350+ degree oil kills lots of things.

McDonald's has somebody go check the restrooms hourly. You tell me if you should eat there.

“Accidentally” walking into the kitchen would probably give a better idea. I have an uncle that likes to do that.

For many years I had shoe stores, even in them, a dirty bathroom told me "no attention to details"
It never failed, clean bathroom, good paperwork.
I still will not go into Golden Corral, I went into 1 to use the bathroom and it was worse that a Mardi Gras bathroom at 2:00 am .. will not give details..my issue was that he manager did not seem to care.
I do not go an inspect the bathroom first, but I do believe a FILTHY bathroom also means that other filth may exist.
