I'm a sucker for vindaloo with any kind of meat. I usually get channa masala as well.

Dosa, poori, samosas, pakora and chat ( steet food made out of chick peas and samosas mashed up) are great snacks to try in US restaurants. My wife is from Louisiana and these are her go to items when we visit my family in India
You can start with naan, tandoori, butter chicken, Tikal masala.
Biryani is one thing every Indian is passionate about and have their own favorite. I like DUM biryani. It’s my every Friday night meal with some whiskey.
You can venture out to chicken chittanadu, vindaloo, koorma and other dishes. There are so many dishes that you can try but the above are some common dishes you can will find at restaurant
