Nirvana = Taj Mahal. Same people. Same food. Both are meh, but I eat at them a lot as that's all we've got.

I agree. Damn, I wish we could get good indian food here. India Palace off of Vets used to be amazing, but they didn't return after Katrina. Nirvana is hit or miss. I do like that they offer a dinner buffet on Thursdays and Sundays.

For indian meets New Orleans fusion type food that is upscale, give Saffron NOLA a try. It's in a strip mall in Gretna and they're only open on Fridays. The atmosphere and food are both great!

For whatever reason I've had a really hard time differentiating between "good" Indian food and bad Indian food. Taj Mahal gets hated on pretty regularly here but I always thought it was good. I've had Indian from four or five places in Houston and I honestly could not discern a difference with the exception of one place (Khyber), which I think was mostly a function of the regional focus of the restaurant.

The buffet is a good way to get your feet wet.

This.

On a personal note, I really like butter chicken and, to a lesser extent, chicken tandoori. One of the places here in Monroe also has some little cake balls dredged in some kind of syrup. They're pretty awesome. Otherwise...don't get your hopes up.

agreed on the lunch buffet idea for getting your feet wet. Indian food is one of my favorites

Curry?

I have had true Indian food a few times, I dated a girl while I was in college that was from India. She made some good arse food, but the curry is different than what we are used to.

it may be. I just know I cant stand it. they would even put that shite on fried chicken where I worked at. It was pretty awful.

I think it may be a spice of some typ though. I have even tasted it in some cuban dishes.
