I think 4 dozen might be my best effort.
But I was not shooting for a record and plenty of beers were consumed as well..
Also been my experiance that most oysters served around the Florida Panhandle are those little puny oysters.
The time I ate the 5 dozen, it just happened, during the course of a lunch while knocking back some brews with my grandpaw. This was a place called Mike's in Ocean Springs (highly recommend it, if you like oysters), and they were some good sized oysters. I was full, but I also at a po-boy or burger plus the beer.
It must not be that easy, or the record would be higher, I'm sure. I wonder what that many oysters would look like just in a bowl or something. Big Al's post said the new record at Wintzell's is 421 raw. If you could get 40 into a bowl, that would still be 10 plus bowls of pure oyster.
edit: And I agree that Pensacola, did not have the best oysters. Supposedly Wintzell's had started to get theirs from Apalachicola, but the time I went there, the oysters were small and did not have the Apalachicola extra salty taste. I live about an hour from Apalachicola now, and I can't wait to feast on some right from the bay.

Never had the notion of seeing how many I could eat but went through 7 dozen quite a few years back at Felix's while sitting with old Mr Charlie, their bookkeeper. I was his bartender at Gino's and he was glad to see us stop in so he just kept sending me the oysters! Must have been 20+ years ago!
