What is so wow about it. You selectively edited what I said.

I don't think standing around a trough loading food from a steam bar into containers is very appealing.

And the prices are not that great.

The hot bar by the pound is fricking disgusting. I don't know why I kept trying to tell myself it would be good.

Just a few days ago was my last time I'll ever go. Got stuffed poblanos with something called "Aztec Blend." I really think my shoe would have tasted the exact same. It was awful. The fried plantains were good though.

The hot by near the pizza (at least the WF in B'ham) is pretty good, but it's more for bulkier orders than just a scoop for a quick eat. The pizza is good. The sushi is good but overloaded with salt. The meat bar is also good.

Ain't nothing wrong with that. I think to compare it to GC is a stretch. It's not an all you can eat type thing. Plus the pizzas aren't even on that trough and can be made to order. The soup and sandwiches are top notch too.

I'm just talking about the buffet type experience. For the prices I'd rather go to a specialty restaurant.

I also said I've never had it and it may be good. It is just not appealing to me.

Finally, I just have some sort of anti-WF bias.

I wish I had that. I work close to one and live close to another. i'm in there at least 5 times a week. IMO the food on the hot bar for the most part is not that good and I never buy supermarket sushi. The breakfast hot bar is pretty darn good though.

I hate the people at whole foods and sometimes won't go to avoid the douchers and liberal betas.

It is a great place to grab a bite though.

I've only had food from there once and it was a few weeks ago. I had the Japanese/Thai. I thought it was pretty delicious. And I didn't see a price difference compared to eating at an actual Thai place.

Hot bar is uniformly bad; so are the premade, take-home-and-reheat entrees and sides. Nothing has any sort of seasoning. Bland city, and stupidly overpriced for the quality & flavor. Ditto for the sushi--why is it so damned expensive? I picked up a package w/two lousy shrimp spring rolls. $7? Any corner Viet joint will sell you two for $4 in a sit-down setting. With more shrimp, and less rubbery wrappers.

That said, the prefab pot pies are decent but expensive, the pizza is passable, and the salad bar usually has a fresh & wide selection of items.

I never go in Atlanta.

But when I am in Savannah I go there probably twice a week to buy something I can't get in the regular stores.

Why does WF hot bar / salad bar containers suck so bad ?

Don't get me started on this.. They could easily put better food out there. Any time I go there, which is after the gym, about 7pm, the contents of the hot bar look like road kill that's been baking in the sun for weeks. The cold side is usually some bland tasteless mush that looks like it would taste like the stuffing of a teddy bear. I can't even figure out why they just don't use the space for something else.

I mention Golden Corral and get hammered!

And I wasn't even talking about quality of the food.

At whole foods, you pay be the pound. Bring lots and lots of pesos.

Try the chicken or beef satay from the sushi bar. It's not sushi. It's the meat on skewers over rice with some sort of magical sauce smothered on it, with veggies on the side. It's incredible.
