I just ordered a Homebrew kit. I have always wanted to try making my own beer. I have read a ton up on it but I didn't know if there were a few people here that also homebrewed. Just thought it would be beneficial to chat with some people who have done this before. TIA.

First attempt is gonna be an Autumn Amber 5gal kit from Midwest Supplies.

There's a pretty good group of brewers on here.

I do extract brewing, maybe 10 or so batches total now, not nearly as advanced as others on here.

Im gonna start with this but I plan on moving to full out all-grain brews as soon as I feel comfortable.

I want to move to all grain soon... it's a matter of space more than anything. I've done a few all-grain batches with others on here and it's not too complicated.

There is a bunch of us on here. Just post questions and I'm sure you'll get answers. First, buy Star San sanitizer and use that to sanitize everything post boil. Its made specifically for brewing beer and leaves no taste so you don't have to rinse it off stuff. Second, go read "How to Brew" by John Palmer. Its online for free. It gets very technical but also has basic info for newbies. Third, start saving beer bottles. Rinse them out as soon as you finish a beer.

Thanks for the advise. I got a kegging system to hopefully cut down on this, but I am thinking about getting a counter pressure filler so I can empty leftover keg beer into bottles when my next batch would be ready. Ill need bottles for that for sure.

I read enough blogs and such to know that if I really want to do this not to skimp too much. I love beer and I thought it would be a great hobby. I just started my first salary type career job (only 24) and have enough friends that want to partake that I thought kegging it up and having a party for each brew would be a ton of fun. Plus carbonating takes much less time with the Keg.

Welcome to the hobby. Have you looked into the homebrew clubs in town? (assuming you are in BTR) Those are always good spots to chat with people who are engrossed in the hobby.

Watching someone else brewing has always been the way I have learned how to get better at brewing.

Absolutely.

Star-san for sure.

Full size pot and burner helps a ton too.

Keeping the carboy in the 60's temp range is also very helpful if possible.

I brew. 7 batches brewed. All extract at the moment. Just bought a 9 gallon brew pot with brewmometer and ball valve. So i can now brew full volume boils, and eventually go to kegging.

ETA: Self taught, with the help of Palmer's How To Brew, the guys here on the board, and www.homebrewtalk.com

Well if you want to start off with partial boils volumes, go to scandina's restaurant supply. They have 5 gallon pots, both Stainless and Aluminum. I've been using a 5 gallon aluminum so far. No scorching issues. I believe they have larger pots as well. Good price.

Aluminum or Stainless pot work. Preferably 6-7 gallons or more but a smaller pot can work too, just have to add water into the fermenter in addition to your wort.
