Chef Jeffery Heard Sr. walks out the kitchen with a plate of food as his daughter, Tia'Nesha Heard-Dorest, and son, Jeffery Jr., right, work inside the kitchen at their Heard Dat Kitchen on Felicity Street in New Orleans on Thursday, October 26, 2017.

The dishes that are passed through that window at 2520 Felicity St., just off Claiborne Avenue? How about a blackened fish fillet with lobster whipped mashed potatoes, lobster béchamel cream sauce with fresh fennel and fresh corn -- all topped with crispy fried onion rings.

quote:

Or maybe creamy mac and cheese with perfectly fried boneless chicken, topped with a crawfish cream sauce and a sprinkle of fresh green onions. On the side: house-made potato salad.

Everything on the menu is from scratch. Daily specials are decided upon after Heard, 55, makes his morning grocery runs.

Gotta respect that. I'll give it a try.

ETA: had three coworkers who went for lunch and had nothing but good things to say about it.

I love the service industry reference in the name. I still say “heard dat” after being out of the back of the house for over 10 years. Pretty cool story and the food looks good. Will definitely give this a try next time I’m in the city.

Yes but it's still no doubt a play on words with a common phrase said all fricking day in a kitchen. The shite drove me nuts back in the day.
