Saw the weekly Robert's Fresh Market ad and they have 16-20 fresh caught shrimp for $3.99 a lb.
I bought some the last time they had them at this price and they were beautiful shrimp.
I'm picking up 10 lbs. today to do a boil tonight.

Yep, I like 21/25's for shrimp stew, seafood gumbo, shrimp fettuccini, etc. and the larger 11/15's when making my version of Pascal's Manale BBQ Shrimp in the oven with good French bread to sop up all the delicious cooking juices.
Damn, I'm getting hungry now.................

21/25s are perfect for steaming too. Can peel them so easily if done correctly.
I didn’t think shrimp season was open. If they’re IQF you may have to soak them before boiling.

Territorial waters of the Gulf are still open but inside is closed now.
I'll be able to tell if they are IQF when I go to get them. Almost none of them have those long feelers left on the heads since they break off so easily when quick frozen and packaged.

What's this? Soak them in what?

I know the son in law to Jerry Fortes seafood…they buy shrimp from shrimpers in the Pass harbor, sell it wholesale and to the public…when he sells me IQF he’ll tell me how long they have been soaking (in ice water) and how long they need to keep soaking for, to free up the shells.
No one sells IQF as frozen shrimp down here, they soak them ice water and simply sell them as fresh shrimp…which they really are. If you catch them right when they start to soak and are just defrosted some people complain about the shells sticking while boiling. I think the ‘required’ soak is just 24 hrs or so.
People on here, cough Mobile, have called bullshite to this ‘theory’…but I’ll listen to the guy who sells and shovels shrimp all day.
