We used our new 225 $10 for $20 coupon today, my 1st visis to H&T. All we got were 2 oyster poboys, the bread was authentic, Lidenheimer's is my guess, and they were packed with about a dozen oysters, pearly meal fried. I can't imagine a better oyster poboy, crispy, fresh ingredients, served hot with some of the best French fries in town.

Thank you God for allowing me to be born in South Louisiana, where I can serve my penance by devouring a fried oyster po'boy on the first meatless Friday of Lent.

How crowded was it? I think I may go there next week.

It was busy at noon, we had no trouble getting a table. Very nice non-chain atmosphere, from the accents I heard, it may be a N.O. ex-pat crowd. I could have been on Tchopitoulas St.

On Silverside, just off Perkins near Essen. The menu is your basic batter barn stuff, they do have a seafood retail outlet attached.

I gave up on this place over a year ago because the service sucked royally. The woman taking the orders was slower than frozen molasses and she kept stopping to answer the phone. The first few trips the food seemed pretty good but it went downhill really fast. Maybe they have new owner/management now?

There is a vast disparity between what the Taco Bell generation calls bad service and what I call bad service, if you want it instantly go get a McCarp sandwich. I don't mind waiting a few minutes for the lady to take my order, I don't mind waiting 20 minutes for them to bring my sandwich if I get good quality food. I don't consider that bad service, I consider it "not pre-cooked waiting for me to order it" service. I don't punch a clock working at the lube rack, so if good food takes time, so be it.

The dining area was pleasant so I was not suffering while I waited and none of my dining companions looked like they'd rather be at Hooters.

Nor do I. I haven't punched a clock in over 25 years.

I went to the place 4 times and every time it was the same thing. They woman handling the walk in customers was the same person handling the phone. And if you happened to be 4-5 people back in the line and 4-5 calls came in, then you'd be waiting a lot more than a few minutes. AS far as waiting for the food to be cooked, I have no problem with that. The problem is, not only did I have to wait but the food wasn't all that good when I DID get it.

I guess you re-BOOMed his BOOM.

I apologize for thinking you were an impatient 19 y/o Taco Bell generation. But, I thought the oyster poboy and fries were pretty good, as far as the service, the line moved quickly for noon on a Friday, other than that they brought me my sandwiches and didn't have any other contact with service people.
